Dear readers,
Welcome to this month’s issue of the Sustainable Transport and Mobility eJournal. With whispers of a possible recession I thought it fitting to begin the issue with an article which states that Eskom and Transnet bonds are now more creditworthy than American government bonds. Focusing on how the public transport system can be restructured we look at the South African National Taxi Council’s plans to introduce a cashless taxi system. The important Pretoria to Johannesburg Gautrain route that was opened on 2 August is then looked at.
We explore an article that reports that Ulan Bator Railways (UBR) has had a positive financial performance for the first time in recent years, a performance that is possibly linked to rail freight. We conclude with a peek at the longer, more efficient Interislander ferry that is due to arrive in Wellington next month.
I hope that you enjoy the chosen articles for this month.
We value your feedback. Please click here if you have any comments or suggestions for future articles.
Best regards,
Mabel
