The Sustainable Transport & Mobility Conference 2012

Transportation is responsible for approximately 15% of global emissions, and is the second largest emitter in South Africa (this excludes SASOL related emissions which are currently listed under ‘Energy’).

According to the Deputy Minister of Transport, Jeremy Cronin, the key drivers of transport emissions in South Africa relate to;

• poor modal mix: (road vs rail; aviation vs maritime; cars vs public transport; minibuses vs mass carriers; motorised transport vs nonmotorised transport)
• a lack of sufficient mitigation incentives, and
• problematic socio-economic geography: (distance to markets”, and urban sprawl)

In 2012 the Sustainable Transport and Mobility Conference will use these points as headings for three distinct discussions featuring presentations and facilitated dialogue of ½ day each. In each case a report back will be generated and circulated to government and the private sector.

Don’t miss this opportunity to delve into and engage on these key topics affecting the transport, built environment and local government sectors.
